Today I am trying to be good and clever (neither, it seems, come naturally to me). I have a meeting on Wednesday where I need to justify my intellectual existence. Trouble is I don't actually believe I exist intellectually! So motivation is hard, it's like trying to convince someone of the existence of Father Christmas - a nice idea, but I'm having trouble sounding like I mean it.
My next challenge - being good. Theoretically, all I have to do is knuckle down, do a mountain of reading, design a few experiments, and sort out a timetable to do it all in. But right now, my most pressing thoughts are what tunes we are going to play at our upcoming gigs, how to sew together my bustle to finish off my new outfit, and getting excited about other peoples impending purchases of amps ( the pros and cons of 50W versus 100W - one so portable and convenient, the other so chocolatey).
So here is my statement of intent - I shall be good. I shall not waste another minute on checking emails or writing blogs or thinking about what I am going to sing OR wear. I shall procrastinate no more, this is it...
But its so close to lunchtime now, I might as well make a fresh start after that!

you can be sure of shures
Yippee! - my new shure microphone arrived today. Two of them actually, one for me and one for Tone D. And stands! This is a very good thing as we often have to share a stand, usually his drum mic plus my vocal mic. This is awkward and has almost caused a bust up on a number of occasions, when on of us fidgets with the mic causing the other mic to swing round and clout the other person. All well and good, but if you must do this sort of thing then take a leaf out of John Ottway's book and use a mic worthy of such an activity...

stick the smalltalk together...
Yesterday was good. No work, just playing with my friends and making a racket all day. Very good!
We were trying to record a demo so as to get some gigs at festivals this summer. It's quite hard doing this without a designated studio and sound technician, but as we are all poor, we do it ourselves. Which is cool, but it takes forever to set up (oddly Specs doesn't want to actually live in a studio so we have to set up and pack away in the same day!) We eventually managed to record one song satifactorally, and another one not so satisfactorally! My throat was killing me by the end, and my eye hurt as I'd stabbed myself in the eye with a packet of biscuits (its ok, laugh, you mean sod!!). Dr la Glitch broke a guitar string, the Red man has a knackered arm, and Tone D Lowerer also was losing his voice. I think Specs survived relatively unscathed! But then he had to deal with turning his studio back into a house, mix the recording, and get on the 7am train to London this morning!
...Oh and I bought a new corset yesterday, its red and velvet and lush!

a second
today I feel like moaning...
rain is crap and cold offices are worse. There is, or at least should be, a law against an office so cold that you have to work with your coat, hat and scarf still on. Yesterday I went on strike and buggered off home because my brain had frozen solid, which is a bad thing.
Tomorrow I shall be happy and not at all moany as I have the day off to go to Specs house and try and record a demo with my lovely band, Quercus Burlesque. We are not a burlesque troop, and neither are we related to oak trees. This used to bother me, until someone pointed out that lots of bands bear no relation to their names. This is quite an amusing game to play at bus stops etc (if you have a really sad life!), thinking of different bands and how literal their names aren't....("Half man half biscuit" are not as tasty as they sound, "Radiohead" can't pick up radio 4, and as for "And you shall know us by the trail of the dead", well!!).
There, I've cheered up already!

tongue tied and utterly witless
here I am, a small voice in the tumultuos maelstrom of information that surrounds and drowns. Why bother? why not! A stream of consciousness flowing into the sea. Another mark made, like layers of graffiti on an unseeing wall. If you really look you may find meaning. Or beauty. Or the answer to a forgotten question. Most likely you will find psychobabble and bullshit.
